Viking River Cruises has cancelled the April 24 departure of the Viking Njord due to continuing construction delays at the Neptun Werft shipyard in Rostock, Germany. The April 24 “Tulips & Windmills” departure was canceled after the company previously cancelled the March 28 and April 6 departures.
The ship is now scheduled to enter service May 3. Originally slated for a March 21 naming in Amsterdam, it was christened in the shipyard in Rostock, along with the Viking Freya. Their namings were projected onto a video screen at the live christening ceremony of the Viking Odin and Viking Idun in Amsterdam.
Guests booked on the impacted sailing will receive a full refund plus credit for a future European cruise worth 25 percent of the amount paid. Viking has communicated with all affected passengers or their travel agents. Travel agent commissions will be protected.
